Prikkle Academy – Who We Are
The population of Nigeria is about 170 million, 63% of this are below the age of 24.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, at least 23.9% of Nigerians are currently unemployed (about 40 million).
A Nigerian Immigration Recruitment Tragedy that occurred in 2014 when 6.5 million graduates in all the 37 states of Nigeria stormed various recruitment centers in the country for 4000 vacant positions in the Nigeria Immigration Service.
16 job seekers died and many people were injured.
This high rate of unemployment is one indication that the education system in Nigeria (and across Africa) is broken. In rural communities, there is poor access to quality education. Where schools exist, there is a mismatch between what the school teaches and what the real world demands.
According to UNESCO, about 10.5 million children are out of school in Nigeria which represents one in six out-of-school children globally. Yes, these statistics presents to us real problems that can only be solved by creative and innovative approaches.

Now, imagine that you are in a place — a digital workspace built by the collaboration of school kids, school drop-outs, college graduates and artisans in a community in Africa, who are not afraid to fail, break the stereotypic rules of learning and education and excel according to the uniqueness of their skill, talents, and vision.
These kids have created their own energy, fabricated their own tools and mastered their desired crafts. These rural youths have become community builders, they run and manage this digital workspace that provokes universities, corporate organizations and the government to come and equally learn creativity, curiosity and collaboration.
That Imagination Says: “Welcome to Prikkle Academy”
Prikkle is an Afrikaan word that means to stimulate, inspire and provoke.
Prikkle Academy establishes creative centres that stimulate and inspire young people to collaborate, identify the social problems within their community, freely choose their own tools and become problem-solvers through virtual and peer-to-peer learning.
Here, it is all about real life learning as real life is happening. We start with the talent of people, support them to take their own decisions and find solutions to make it profitable.
Our participants are in the driver’s seat of learning while our facilitators are there to mentor and ask deeper questions. Our curriculum taps into the talents of each participant and tailored to satisfy their individual pursuits.
We use asset-based and design thinking learning approach to create mindset and social change in the way young people learn, create and solve problems. We are removing all the barriers that make it difficult for learning to be transformed into action.
We believe that quality, tailored, relevant and anticipated education is the bedrock for any sustainable development in the world. That is why we are at the forefront, leading the change that we want to see in the world.
